IT Consulting companies
At a networking event a while back, I was talking to a strategy consultant from the Monitor Group. This guy was hired right out of the engineering undergraduate program at the UofT. The consultant lifestyle includes a lot of travel, long hours of work and interacting with very smart people. Anyways, I’ve done some research and compiled a list of consulting companies (primarily in North America.) Should I be looking for a job, this would be the list I would start with. Hope it’s useful for others as well.
- Accenture
- Bain and Company
- BearingPoint
- Booz Allen Hamilton
- Boston Consulting Group
- Capgemini
- Computer Sciences Corporation
- Convergys Corporation
- Deloitte Consulting
- First Consulting Group
- Gartner
- IBM Global Services
- Infosys
- McKinsey & Company
- Monitor
- Novell
- Tata Consultancy Services
- Unisys Corporation
- Wipro
You can get a more comprehensive list from WetFeet or Wikipedia.

The list looks great, but just one caveat. Do not — I repeat, do not — ever try going to TCS.
They are notorious for the things they do in the US to non-US citizens that work for them. I do not know how it is in Canada (if you plan to work there), but I’ve heard horror stories from friends who have told me some pretty scary things.

I was seriously thinking about these guys for one of my internships. The reason being that the position is in Chennai and they pay for your airfare.
Paid Vacation in your hometown? Very tempting.
Apart from that, I’m thinking about consulting being a good way to bootstrap your business. One of the things I’ve learnt is how important the client is to the success of your company - making a feedback loop with the customer and having their input is key. Consulting can teach you something here.
Cheers.
